A deceptively complicated piece, this compact desk fountain is comprised of a 9-sided teak basin adorned with purpleheart accents, and a slate tower over which the water cascades.

The 9-sided design was difficult to execute and meant that the miters had to be cut very accurately. For strength, hidden in each joint is a wooden spline to help hold the pieces together. The wood was sealed with a penetrating epoxy and the basin was coated with a thick layer of marine epoxy to prevent the wood from swelling.

The red slate tower was created by hand as well, using epoxy, and is supported by a hidden plexiglas subframe. Purpleheart inserts around the bottom and notches on the top of each of the 9 sides add a rich tonal accent that compliment the red slate waterfall.
